Safety being the foremost priority of Indian Railways, continuous monitoring and evaluation of safety systems are integral to ensuring the highest standards of railway operation.

In this context, Hari Shankar Verma, Director General (Safety), Railway Board, conducted a comprehensive Safety Review Meeting with Milind Deouskar, General Manager, Eastern Railway, at Eastern Railway Headquarters, Fairlie Place in Kolkata on Wednesday.

The meeting was attended by Additional General Manager and Principal Heads of Departments of Eastern Railway, where various aspects of safety management, accident prevention, and operational discipline were discussed in detail.

During his visit, Verma carried out in-depth inspections across key operational locations of Eastern Railway. He thoroughly inspected Howrah Station, Howrah Crew Lobby, and Shalimar Station, followed by a window trailing inspection from Shalimar to Panskura and back from Panskura to Howrah on 14 October 2025.

He interacted extensively with running staff, crew members, and other frontline railway personnel of Eastern Railway to understand on-ground challenges and reinforce the importance of adherence to safety norms.

A safety seminar was also held at Howrah, where Verma addressed officers and staff, emphasising the critical role of proactive measures and continuous vigilance in maintaining accident-free railway operations.
